Res 24 MAR 06

Bis Majesty's Consurate-General,

Canton, 3rd. November, 1905.

Sir.

I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of

your letter No. 214 of the 21st, ultimo, requesting me to make

representations to the Viceroy for the release of the coal mort-

-gaged by Fung Ha Chun to the National Bank of China.

I regret that there is no prospect of the

hope contained in the last paragraph of your letter being realised.

On the contrary, the Viceroy now requests me to apply to his Ex-

cellency the Governor, as you will see from the enclosed letter

and transistion, to have fung Wa Chun sent to Canton, to undergo

trial for his whole connection with Chau Tung Shang's business

#ung merely being his agent and nominee. The Chinese Authorities

allege that Fung Wa Chun was instrumental in assisting Chau Tune

Shang to escape.

The Honourable

The Colonial Secretary,

Hongkong.

I have etc.,

(Sd.) James Scott,

Consul-General.
